gruffalo

I know encouraging a love of books and learning is a wonderful to gift to give our children, but when Toby wakes at 4:11am and snuggles for 30 minutes or so and then is restless and crying because he wants to get up, and I'm INSISTENT it's too early to get up... but after about 40 minutes of that he starts saying: Gaggolo... his way of saying Gruffalo.  Seriously, he wakes up and that's the first thought in his head?? It's cruel and mean, we read this book and it's follow one, The Gruffalo's Child several times a day. Now I have to start my day after a few hours sleep reading it too?

I brought Toby out to the lounge and again insisted it's cuddle time, not reading time, he glances and sees The Gruffalo and so my day begins: A mouse took a stroll through the deep, dark wood, a fox saw the mouse and the mouse looked good...

camping

This is our campsite. I survived only 4 of the intended 6 nights. Both boys sick... turns out ear infections and Toby a very red, swollen throat on top of that, and I'm cough, cough, coughing. It was BOILING hot, then raining hard, then boiling hot. I think I'm too much of a princess!!! We will try again soon no doubt, and I will try to do better. Micah was over it too, the others were loving it. Oh well.

We did alot of swimming, and swimming and jumping on the giant pillow. We were at Yamba Big4, we definitely will be back, is a great camp ground.

But for now, I'm happy to be home.

i said: bless you mummy

Scott is away in Sydney at the moment, and I know Micah particularly feels his absence, even if he doesn't quite realise it. So tonight, we turned the light off and snuggled in bed and watched some Ice Age 3. He loves Rudy the dinosaur at the end. After we watched the last few minutes, I tucked him, we talked about the day... how much he wants a drum, which is really a tambourine, but he was singing and dancing today at "school" (daycare) banging his "drum", he wants one so bad he wanted to go back to school today after being there for nearly 9 hours!!! I kissed him and gave him a "squeezy" cuddle and said good night.

Half an hour later I realised he was still awake, I went in and he says: I said bless you mummy when you said a-choo a-choo... what a beautiful, sweet boy he is. I am blessed indeed.

my little batman

Because of Scott and Zac, Micah is very much into Batman. Recently on an excursion to WetnWild that I didn't attend as I was at work, Scott bought Micah his very own Batman shirt with cape!! All very excited. At mother's group today he had it on, and he found a party hat. He looks at me after I help him put it on and said: Mum is it party time? So cute. Except of course he wouldn't take it off and there were tears and nonsense when it was time to leave. These photos were taken whilst playing and whilst sleeping in the car. He is adorable. I took the hat off before I carried upstairs to bed and there were more tears in bed half asleep because I had removed the party hat!!!!!

Micah was quite grumpy about me taking his photo. I said to him: Micah can you give your best smile for Skye... the only smile I got, he does look like he's in pain, but I swear it's a smile for Skye!

trusting

When you want things that aren't bad to want, but the wanting becomes a little on the intense side, then the wanting becomes bad. I really want my unit to sell so we can buy some land and build a house for our family to live in. I found the perfect piece of land but we had to make the contract based on the sale of the unit. Which means, if someone comes along and offers a better, more secure purchase the seller can take the other contract, and that is what happened today :(

In the middle of of all of this I have to trust that God is with us, that He will direct our paths. We have seen his faithfulness over this past year in astounding ways. Scott's job is a godsend. I am married to a man who LOVES his job. Who knew what a difference that could make? We are blessed indeed. We have a wonderful marriage, healthy, happy, vibrant children. God will take care of us.

growing up

The boys are growing so fast. Micah has three categories for describing things: pretty yummy, pretty disgusting and pretty yukky. His favourite toy at the moment is his tiger with the HUGE teeth. He saw it in the shop 3 days ago, we tried to explain about Christmas but he didn't quite understand, or perhaps more accurately we didn't understand how much he really wanted it. I lasted a day and a half, Scott would have given in immediately. But he is such delightful boy (most of the time) and he is trying to do his "wees" on the toilet. To make myself feel better I'm calling it a early toilet training present.

Toby on the other hand can nearly say "Toy Story" at 16mo. Micah knew his animal sounds at this age but didn't really have many words other than mama and daddy. But Toby, his love for all things Toy Story is concerning but cute. Toby is full of life and laughter. He is definitely on the cheeky side. He already winds Mikey up and pushes him over, scratches and occasionally bites. On the positive side, as soon as Toby is awake in the morning and after his midday sleep the first person he wants to see is Micah and often wakes him!!! Micah gets lots of cuddles and kisses from Tobes and vice versa. They're starting to play together and become friends. My cup runs over!!

hp 7 continued...

It turned out that Harry Potter 7, part 1 is amazingly close to the book. Truly amazing rendition of a very big book, can't wait for next part in July.

We had a wonderful family outing, though I think I had more "jeeps" than Zac and Shani, and Scott's hand is a little sore from me grabbing it a wee bit too hard. But it was really fun.

Love love love my family.

hp 7

Here we all are waiting in line for Harry Potter 7. It's supposed to be the darkest of all of them but we're pretty excited. Here comes the almost last installment of an extraordinary series of friendship and betrayal.

i want to fight?

Micah's favourite "play" words at the moment are: I want to fight? Which of course means we need a "goodie" and a "baddie".

This is not a great picture but it shows Toby already joining in the fighting games. What is it with boys and fighting? Though I have asked friends with boys if they do the "fighting" thing and they don't, so maybe it's being boys but also having a cool big brother like Zac who is a huge batman fan.... And a pretty fun dad!!

work days

My friend Michelle and I often joke about our "day off"... on Thursdays when we go to work because some days it seems easier than carousing with our busy little boys.

But at the end of my shift at 3pm I'm always busting to get out the door and see my boys. My routine involves getting Micah from his room first. And I ask Micah "do you want to go home now?" and he says "I want to see Toby". Such a sweet lad.

The boys are such a joy to watch when they're in their gentler moods. They are cuddly and affectionate. Micah drives Toby to distraction with his cuddles but it is so beautiful.

Ahhhh... I love my boys.

togetherness

Today Toby and Micah played with their cousin Xander. Toby is very much into book and brought this book to me to read. Before too long both Micah and Xander joined him in the looking and page turning event.

What a gift it is to give children... the gift of reading. A friend of mine is a school teacher and has children in her grade 1 class who have never held a book before in their lives. I pray that the boys continue their love of reading for all of their lives.

I love the photo of Micah cuddling Toby. Such a sweet boy. He often showers Toby with affection which is often returned with a whack on the head / upper body, or a good shove :(. Hopefully they will be good friends as they grow, if Micah doesn't smother Toby with affection first!!

scott

I am supposed to be doing a quick sweep and vacuum and sitting down to read my novel. But I just had to write about my wonderful husband. We took the boys out for a play this morning and then home for a HUGE sleep. I slept 2 hours as well. Bliss. Then I woke and was able to get in a cuppa and 30 minutes of reading before they woke.

Now Scott has taken them out to splash at Riverside Rocks while I'm left to do a minimal amount of cleaning in air conditioned comfort and then back to my book. He is such a gift. And while this is nothing to him, he loves time with this boys, especially taking them on adventures just the three of them, the time it gives me is such a blessing. I love, love, love my husband.

toby

Words cannot do justice to just how adorable this boy of mine is. He is full of laughter and mischief, funny faces and kisses. He and Micah are learning to play together and have started really laughing at the funny things the other does. Being a parent is a blessed and amazing place.

Today when I picked up Toby from "school" (ie daycare) he ran over, huge smiles, crawled into my arms and just lay there with his head all snuggled in. Scott says, Toby is the only person he's met who cuddles with his whole head! As he lay pressed against me as closely as possible he was watching Micah bang his head on a mirror (who knows why??) and Toby started doing these little bursts of giggles. Such a gorgeous lad.

This is him messing around at dinner. He finds it so amusing to put things on his head.

micah

You know there are some days I LOVE LOVE my boys, and others when I'm ready for their bedtime!! But they constantly entertain me and completely overwhelm me with their love and affection.

Yesterday when Micah woke from his sleep crying and grumpy, I gently put him back to bed and made soothing sounds until he was again sleeping. Within a few minutes he was whimpering in his sleep. I went back in and lay beside him and curled him into me like he used to when he was a baby. He snuggled into my shoulder and put his arm around my neck and started snoring. I just lay there looking at him... bliss. I thought these days of snuggling were over. But here lay my beautiful 2 1/2 year old boy, cuddled into my shoulder as though he was still much younger. These are the moments to remember and treasure when he's crying through dinner because daddy put a pea in his mouth!!

Today Micah looks and me and randomly says: I want to very carefully cuddle a cow.

Not entirely sure how you cuddle an entire cow, but no doubt he will try the next time he sees one.

I love this boy!

getting started

I have been trying to work out how I will remember all the funny things the kids say, as well as our family's most memorable times... I was imagining endless photo books, but who has the time?

I've finally decided the best way is to blog about my beautiful growing family. So here goes.
